It’s common for men to feel apprehensive about getting a vasectomy. We can assure you that the fear you may have is always out of proportion to the experience. Vasectomies are a quick, effective means of birth control.
At Preventous, you’ll have all the time you need to get your questions answered so that you can feel confident that you’re making the best choice for your family. You’ll also have access to your physician after the procedure and will benefit from the approach used by your experienced doctor.
During your pre-vasectomy consultation, you’ll have as much time as you need to get all your concerns addressed. There’s no rush to get you out the door so we can see the next patient.
Typically, we will discuss the specific details of the procedure, the benefits of our approach and possible side effects. Then we will make an appointment for your vasectomy to take place in our office one to two weeks later.
Timely Post-Vasectomy Physician Access
While it’s rare for our patients to require any follow-up assistance, you can access your physician directly any time of the day after your vasectomy if you are having any concerns.
Classical vs No-Scalpel Vasectomy
No-scalpel vasectomies have become common. Instead of making two incisions with a scalpel, as in a classical vasectomy, the skin is punctured with a special instrument. While this method is typically faster, we believe it compromises the doctor’s ability to see what’s going on during the procedure.
Also, in many no-scalpel vasectomies, the tubes are sealed with titanium clips. Although there is no evidence suggesting titanium is unsafe, we understand that many of our patients prefer a dissolving suture to having a foreign object in their bodies for life. Therefore, we do not use titanium clips.
A Unique Approach
Your vasectomy will be performed by Dr. Sarb Grewal. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Grewal has developed a unique approach—the Modified Classical Vasectomy—to reduce some of the common drawbacks of vasectomies such as large incisions and significant bleeding.
Instead of two incisions, Dr. Grewal makes only one, 5-mm incision. That’s less than ¼ inch. This reduces the number of sutures required, the amount of bleeding and the amount of post-vasectomy pain. It’s a unique procedure that combines the best of techniques for a quick procedure with a minimum of discomfort.
