Nutrition Services for
optimal diabetes management

Registered Dietitians play an important role in optimal diabetes management. Our dietitian will work closely with you to provide a better understanding of what diabetes is, simplify what your lab results mean, and advise ways to lower your blood sugar through nutrition, lifestyle changes, and exercise.

Our dietitian will provide nutrition tips and on what to eat, and how to eat healthy to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes, as well as assisting those with a diagnosis on portion sizes, meal timing, eating patterns.

Our nutrition consult specific to diabetes is an assessment that is appropriate for any individual who is

  • at high risk for diabetes (family history)
  • pre-diabetic
  • diagnosed with the medical condition.

Your Nutrition Consultation

Many health and nutrition topics can be covered, please inquire directly for more information. During a nutrition consult, our dietitian will work with you to determine what your nutrition goals and objectives are. From the nutrition assessment they will take a comprehensive look at your medical history (medication, supplements, and lab work analysis as needed), and current lifestyle patterns to get a sense of your energy levels, exercise routine, stress levels, and gastrointestinal health.

Our dietitian will have you complete a food-intake log, so they can complete a detailed analysis of your current dietary habits. From there our dietitian will advise and assist you on appropriate nutrition intake for you to achieve your personalized goals. They will provide recommendations on meal planning, portion sizes, and timing of meals to help you create a more individualized meal pattern that will work for you.

Why Registered Dietitians?

Choosing a Dietitian is one way you can be assured the advice and information you are receiving is sound. Dietitians, just like other regulated professionals, are accountable to provincial regulatory bodies for their professional conduct and the services they provide.

A Registered Dietitian is a health professional who:

  • Holds a specialized Bachelor of Science degree in Food and Nutrition from an accredited university program
  • Has at least 1 year of practical training  (internship) within various hospital and community health-care settings
  • Has successfully passed a national board exam and is registered with a provincial regulatory body such as the College of Dietitians of Alberta
  • Actively updates their skill and knowledge in the field each year to maintain competency
