Redefining the
concept of health care

Your Calgary Health Care Team

If your visits to your family doctor in Calgary leave you feeling unsatisfied, uninformed or uncared for, you’re not alone. High patient loads have led to shorter and shorter physician visits. It can be extremely difficult to get your questions answered and find out about treatment options or lifestyle improvements as you’re rushed in and out of the office.

Dr. Bing Wu

Family Physician

“In medicine, I can help people age well and stay healthy, both in terms of mental and physical health.”

Dr. Bing Wu is the most recent addition to the Preventous medical team. Bing was born China and immigrated to Canada with his family, at age 2. After graduating from Sir Winston Churchill High School, Bing attended Western University and completed Bachelors and Masters degrees both in Economics. He then moved to Ottawa and worked in the Finance department of the Canadian Federal government. After 2 years with the feds, looking for a greater challenge and new experiences, Bing took a job as an Economic Consultant with FTI Consulting in San Francisco.

During his time in San Francisco, Bing volunteered with the San Francisco AIDS Foundation as an HIV/STI test counsellor. He enjoyed his work and time living in San Francisco, but began to realize that he wanted a career that would better engage his love of science and passion for healthy living. As a result Bing set his sights on pursuing a career in medicine.

He subsequently attended the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine and completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. As a medical student Bing did an elective working in government-run hospitals in Tanzania. That opportunity gave him a broader appreciation of the resources available in our system and emphasized the need to focus on what is best in the interest of the patient.

Bing brings a passion for preventative medicine, including strategies for aging well and preventing chronic disease. He has always had a commitment to staying active and healthy, and realized he could bring something unique to the table in medicine – an ability to connect with people, to help them strategize about how to best take care of their health.

Bing’s interests outside of medicine include kayaking, hiking, cycling, cooking and going to the gym. In addition to English, Bing is also fluent in Mandarin.
