concept of health care

Your Calgary Health Care Team

It can be extremely difficult to get your questions answered and find out about treatment options or lifestyle improvements as you’re rushed in and out of the office.

A Focus on Prevention

At Preventous, we take a more traditional approach. Our health care professionals take the time to give you the information you need and work with you to manage your health. Tying this traditional approach with the latest scientifically  proven medical advancements allows us to provide top quality care during illnesses and, more importantly, to prevent illness altogether.

We love what we do and are passionate about helping you achieve success. Each member of your team is a specialist, carefully selected to work in our collaborative, fun environment. Although we are always open to new ideas and approaches, we carefully analyze alternatives and do not adopt unproven investigations or treatments.

Health and wellness are a passion for every member of our team. Whether we’re biking, running or cheering at our kids’ sporting events, we make a point of staying active so we can enjoy life to the fullest. It’s our goal to help you and your family do the same.

Dr. Samantha Carey

Family Physician

Dr. Samantha Carey is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she spent her formative years. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Manitoba, achieving a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology. Her passion for medicine led her to pursue her MD degree at the same institution, where she honed her medical expertise.  After successfully completing her transformative Family Medicine Residency in Calgary in 2015, Dr. Carey embarked on her professional journey. She is deeply committed to delivering exceptional patient care, driven by a dedication to improving the health and well-being of her patients.

Her early professional experiences took her to Richmond Hospital, where she underwent extended training in family medicine obstetrics. This initial exposure soon transitioned into a more substantial role as a member of the group of low-risk OB providers at the hospital. In this capacity, Dr. Carey provided on-call coverage for delivering babies, assisting in surgeries, and running prenatal clinics. Her tenure in this role spanned just under two years, offering her invaluable experience.

With seven years spent in Calgary, Dr. Carey’s experiences led her back to Winnipeg and then to Vancouver, providing her with a diverse range of experiences across the country. In the Greater Vancouver area, she showcased her prowess in Urgent Care and Low-Risk Obstetrics. Her expertise also extends across outpatient community primary care in three provinces. She holds a particular passion for Women’s Health and reproductive medicine, where she is driven by a mission to make a meaningful impact.

Now, Dr. Carey eagerly returns to Calgary, a place she has always considered home. Beyond her roles in the hospital and clinic, she is a dedicated mother to three vibrant children who infuse her life with excitement. Embracing the prairie spirit, she enjoys activities such as running, cycling, and, in homage to her heritage, curling. Her culinary experiments in the kitchen reflect her love for exploration, yet nothing rivals the joy of spending quality time with her family.

Joining Preventous signifies more than a professional transition for Dr. Carey; it is a heartfelt commitment. She believes in the power of prevention as the ideal way to practice medicine. However, she opines that the traditional medical model doesn’t always facilitate this effectively. For Dr. Carey, a multidisciplinary approach to health care represents the pinnacle of optimal patient care. Together with Preventous, she aspires to optimize patient health and is enthusiastic about contributing to this noble endeavour.
