The Best Calgary Fitness Assessment
Your current physical fitness level is determined in our state-of-the-art, on-site fitness testing facility. It will tell you where you are today so we can design a program to get you in peak shape.
The assessment is performed by our Certified Athletic Therapist, using CPAFLA (Canadian Physical Activity, Fitness and Lifestyle Association) and CATA (Canadian Athletic Therapists Association) assessment protocols and procedures to determine your flexibility, body composition, cardiovascular condition, musculoskeletal strength, back health and joint health.
Health & Physical Activity Interview
During your visit we explain the assessment process and discuss outcome expectations, your lifestyle, activities, injuries and your unique physical health and fitness goals.
Cardiovascular Testing
Aerobic fitness refers to how efficiently your lungs, heart, bloodstream and exercising muscles take in oxygen and transport it through the blood to the working muscles, where it is used to fuel the body. With a larger aerobic capacity, daily activities are done more efficiently, leaving a bigger reserve for pursuing recreational activities and dealing with emergencies.
Our Athletic Therapist will choose the appropriate test protocol for your level of fitness. All tests are performed on a treadmill or bike and you will wear a heart rate monitor throughout testing.
Musculoskeletal Testing
This assesses the four components of muscular fitness: strength, endurance, power and flexibility.
Strength is the amount of force your muscles can produce. It is essential for daily tasks such as opening jars and lifting heavy objects.
Endurance is the ability to sustain activity for prolonged periods of time without fatigue. We require endurance for activities such as gardening and cleaning.
Flexibility allows you to bend, turn and reach with ease and comfort. It helps with proper posture, reduces stiffness and soreness from unaccustomed activity, and minimizes the risk of back injury.
Power involves a combination of strength and speed (explosiveness), and is important for activities such as shoveling, hammering or making quick movements to avoid collisions and injury.
Joint Health Assessment
The joint health assessment will look at your active range of motion of various joints. Our Athletic Therapist will assess the integrity of the tissue components of the joint complex while looking for any variations or abnormal motion patterns.
Body Composition Analysis
This is determined by your BMI (body mass index), waist circumference and body fat percentage. Standing height and weight is used to determine your BMI, which tells you whether your weight is appropriate for your height.
Waist circumference measurement provides information on the distribution of your fat, which is the strongest predictor of visceral fat (stored internally). An increased waist circumference can contribute to specific lifestyle diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Reducing your waist circumference reduces your risk of developing these lifestyle diseases and helps you to enjoy your life to the fullest.
An Individualized Plan
Once your fitness assessment is completed, our team analyzes the results to make recommendations based on your individual results and needs.
